In Las Cruces, New Mexico December 11th, 1933 Joe L Padilla was born. His proud parents Vidal and Thomasa Padilla shared their love with his 6 siblings, Virginia Romero (deceased), Josie Ratto, Angel, Manuel, Ernie and James Padilla. While in grammar school the Padilla family relocated to Tulare. Joe graduated from Tulare Union High School and eventually graduated from College of the Sequoias. His proud parents Vidal and Thomasa Padilla shared their love with his 6 siblings, Virginia Romero (deceased), Josie Ratto, Angel, Manuel, Ernie and James Padilla. While in grammar school the Padilla family relocated to Tulare. Joe graduated from Tulare Union High School and eventually graduated from College of the Sequoias. In 1953 he joined the United States Army. He proudly served with the 11th Airborne Division Angels in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Upon his Honorable Army discharge he entered Barber College in Los Angeles and married his sweetheart Alla Marie Houx (deceased in 2013). After completing his degree he moved his bride to Tulare, California where they started their family. Joe and Alla had 5 children, Tom and his wife Roxanne, Springville. Patty and her husband Rick, Camano Island, WA, Dianna and her husband Jim, Camano Island, WA, Mark and his wife Denise, Visalia, CA and Richard and his wife Sara, Morro Bay, CA.
Joe made a career with the United States Postal service. He climbed the ladder from a mail carrier t9o Postmaster and served in that capacity until he retired with 30 years of service. His final post was the Corcoran California office. Retiring young, Joe went on to develop a successful Real Estate career with Century 21 in Tulare. He was a past member of the Rotary Club in Corcoran, a faithful supporter of the California Blood Bank and the Veterans association.
Through the years Joe was extremely active in the lives of his 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He loved and encouraged them every opportunity that he got. He loved playing cards with his brothers, something he looked forward to.
Joe passed away on August 9th, peacefully in his home. He will be missed. Memories of his jokes, pranks, endless humor, kindness, love and support will forever live in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. Joe instilled hard work ethics and taught us all to "Work the first 8 hours to make a living and the second to get ahead."
His family will be hosting A Celebration of Life Service on September 9th at the Visalia Nazarene Church 3333 W Caldwell Ave, Visalia, CA 93277 at 1:00 followed by lunch.
