After a very full life of having served in the Navy, being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather the Angels came and peacefully took Norman Bryan to Heaven on Sept. 13, 2017, as his children sat by his side.
Norm was born Dec. 16, 1926, to Harvey and Cora Bryan in Santa Cruz, CA, where he spent his childhood and early life, graduating from Santa Cruz High in 1945. After graduation Norm joined the U.S. Navy and was deployed in the South Pacific. When the war was over, he returned to Santa Cruz to find work and also found his future bride, Norma Morris whom he married in 1947. Norm was called back into active duty during the Korean Conflict. He and Norma were married for 55 years and had 3 children, during which time Norm worked as a mechanic and eventually found his career in the bread business, which took them to Hanford then to Visalia, where they would live most of their lives. He started as a route driver and worked his way up to becoming a route supervisor, which he worked as for many years. He retired when he was 63, but always kept very busy. Norm was very social and loved being with people, so found a part-time job at Frank's Liquorette and worked there well into his 80's making great new friends with lots of stories to tell.
Norm was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Visalia where he sang in the church choir for a long time and served as a Deacon several times. He also sang with the "Mighty Oak Chorus". Recently, in 2015, a great honor and joy for him was going on the "Honor Flight" with fellow veterans to Washington, D.C.
Norm was always known for having big heart and helping others and will be missed by both family and friends. Norm is predeceased by wife, Norma, son, Norman "Keith" Bryan, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Steve) and son, Michael, grandchildren Tara Bryan-Burner, Andrew Bryan (Steff), Matthew Bryan, Darin Welch (Kristy), and Jeremy Welch (Rachel). He also has 3 great-grandchildren, Oliver, Hadley and Adalyn Welch and also, many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, September 22, 2017, at 10:30 AM at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Visalia, 215 N. Locust. Graveside will follow with Military Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the 1st Presbyterian Church, Visalia or Disaster Relief through Convoy of Hope, P.O. Box 219368, Kansas City, MO 64121 (K-LOVE Radio).
