Scott Douglas Petersdorf, 64, of Visalia passed away on September 23, 2017 in Visalia.
Scott was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on June 14, 1953 to Theodore and Irene (Federly) Petersdorf. Following his father's discharge from the United States Armed Forces, the family moved to Madera, California and then to the San Fernando Valley. The family settled in Visalia in 1961, where Scott graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 1971.
Following graduation, he moved to Modesto, California and started his own tile company A-1 Tile. He worked as a tile and painting contractor in the valley for over 25 years. In Modesto he met and married Deborah Bonds and together they were blessed with their son, Paul. Although their union would not be forever, their friendship was. While in Modesto, Scott was very involved in the Tully Road Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. When his mother Irene became ill, he returned to Visalia in 1998 to be with her and the rest of his family. He was a great comfort and helper to both of his parents during her illness.
Scott enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and coaching his son Paul's Little League teams. He rarely missed one of Paul's games. The two attended Oakland A's games and binge watched WWF and ESPN together. Scott also occasionally sang with the Mighty Oak Chorus and in the VUMC Cornerstone Choir.
Scott enjoyed spending time with his brother and sister's families, but especially his nephew Connor. If they gave an "Uncle of the Year Award", Scott certainly would have won it. He taught Connor the in's and out's of baseball from pitching to fielding and good sportsmanship. They were a bit like "peas and carrots" hanging out together playing video games, talking about kids' problems and eating dinners out at Denny's, enjoying far too much bacon.
Scott was very excited to become a grandfather to Jace and then to Macie. Although he did not get to visit much, they were in his heart and on his fridge to make him smile.
Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Petersdorf in 2000. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Paul Petersdorf and wife Jamie of Helena, Montana; his father, Theodore Petersdorf and his wife Aileen of Exeter; brother Tracy Petersdorf and wife Jennifer of Visalia; sister Jana Petersdorf and husband Patrick Cartwright of Visalia; two grandchildren Macie and Jace; nieces and nephews Zachary and Nathan Petersdorf, Brianna and Johnathan Rodriguez, Connor and Dylan Cartwright; and his uncle Roland Federly and wife Pat of Twain Heart, CA.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Visalia United Methodist Church Family Life Center on the corner of Caldwell and Akers in Visalia.
