Stanley Jesus Sanchez, known by everyone as "Stan", passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 in Porterville. Stan was born in Farmersville, CA on May 2, 1925 to Tiburcio and Loie Sanchez. He lived with his family in Farmersville until moving to Woodlake in 7th grade. He graduated from Woodlake Union High School in 1943 and entered the Navy one month after graduation. He served three years in the Navy, spending time on Okinawa until 1945.He married his high school sweetheart Antonia Patino in 1946.

Stanley Jesus Sanchez, known by everyone as "Stan", passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 in Porterville. Stan was born in Farmersville, CA on May 2, 1925 to Tiburcio and Loie Sanchez. He lived with his family in Farmersville until moving to Woodlake in 7th grade. He graduated from Woodlake Union High School in 1943 and entered the Navy one month after graduation. He served three years in the Navy, spending time on Okinawa until 1945.He married his high school sweetheart Antonia Patino in 1946.
Stan was one of the Woodlake Tigers outstanding athletes. He played four years on the football, basketball and baseball teams where he was the youngest member of the varsity 1940 baseball team. He was also known and feared as a fast softball pitcher. Starting in 1947, he spent 12 years pitching for the Woodlake city league team.
Stan was the original custodian for the Woodlake Memorial Building (1955 - 1961). He started with the Post Office in 1961 where he retired in 1988 after 27 years; 13 as a city carrier and 14 on a rural route. He was active in the community he loved, serving on the Memorial Board, Recreation Board and Cemetery Board. He was a founding board member of the WUHS Foundation. He helped organize and coach Pop Warner football and Little League and Pony Baseball leagues in Woodlake.
Stan was also a charter member of the Woodlake Kiwanis Club, serving as President and Lieutenant Governor for Division 18 during 1977 and 1978. He was a charter member of the local VFW and served as Commander as well as on many of the committees. He was active in St Francis Cabrini Catholic Church as parishioner and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and held all offices as well as Grand Knight.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Antonia. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Morris, whom he married in 2011. He is also survived by eight children, Elaine Hollifield, Stan Sanchez (wife Phyllis), Jan Hill (husband George), Ann Ambrose (husband Allen), Mark Sanchez, Francine Sanchez, Monica Urmson (husband Raymond), and Leah Martinez, 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 West Goshen Ave, Visalia, CA with a Rosary at 6:00 pm
Funeral Mass Monday, June 26, 2017 at 9:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 608 N Church St, Visalia CA. followed by Graveside Service at Woodlake Cemetery, 165 N Cypress St, Woodlake, CA.
